A True Friday the 13th Homecoming

by Jade Hickey

Smoke wafted through the air, streamers swayed abandoned in the ghostly bleachers. After weeks of preparing for the big night, Friday the 13th had bested Santa Cruz High.

The Junior Varsity football game had been canceled due to poor air quality from the Northern California wildfires. However, Santa Cruz High’s Varsity football team had been cleared to play, that is until Harbor High School’s football team refused to play. Cries of outrage and disappointment erupted from the students setting up the class floats and the dance when it was officially announced that Homecoming was canceled.

Nevertheless, Homecoming 2.0 is in the works. There will be a second spirit week on the week of October 30th; the game will take place on November 4th. Monday will be Awareness Day (purple=suicide prevention/awareness, pink=breast cancer, and rainbow=LGBTQ). Tuesday will be Halloween Costume Day. Wednesday will be Twin/Squad Day. Thursday will be Dress to Impress or Unimpress, and Friday will be Cardinal Pride Day.
